Admiring His creations

11 Jul

I have never noticed much about the clouds, sunset, sunrise, moon light as much as I do now. This happens especially when I’m driving, (especially when I’m stuck in a jam).   Even since I have gone behind the camera and starting taking shots of God’s creation. The descriptions by the Psalmists in the bible become a lot more relevant in my daily life. I feel extremely blessed just being able to admire and capture what God has intrinsically and brilliantly created.

Psalm 8

O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have ordained strength,
Because of Your enemies,
That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels,[b]
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Our future home - almost there!

top ten ways to respond to haze.

Instead of lamenting over the Singapore haze situation and pouring out my woes on social media (which adds zero value to this pseudo national crisis IMHO), I found ten ways to be thankful for the wind beneath my wings…

  1. The last time Singapore had such unhealthy PSI readings was in October 2006 (I think). Let’s be thankful that we’ve enjoyed clear skies for nearly seven years!
  2. In moments like these, you should be pleased that you’re not in Sumatra or any of the northern Indonesian islands – it could be been far worse!
  3. Isn’t it good that at least Singapore has a tropical climate where rain could come anytime to wash the haze away? Places in summer now (especially desert places) won’t even smell precipitation for weeks!
  4. Let’s rejoice that that Singapore’s transportation system is nearly 100% air-conditioned; when I was a teenager, buses were ventilated by natural wind! And…

I signed up for a silent retreat with the church a few months back and it was the best decision ever. For someone who enjoys multi-tasking and being bogged down with multiple activities everyday, a silent retreat was the right thing to go for.

this is my encounter with God in summary:

1. i had a sense of HELPLESSNESS after hearing about my dying uncle 1 hour before i set off for the retreat. More so because I know he is a non-believer. On the same day (the 13th) while reading the bible in the room, God reminded me through the song ‘The Lord’s my shepherd”, he is in control and his rod and staff comforts me. I prayed for my Uncle’s soul and for the opportunity for him to meet God. As I did not carry my handphone with me in the retreat, I found out that he passed on on the 14th at 1am after I returned to S’pore.

2. WAITING upon God requires a spirit of HUMILITY, ABANDONMENT, CONTENTMENT and RECOGNITION. many times I ask/hurry God for answers through people, through the word, through signs but not through Him. I want God to give me CLARITY in HIs plans for me that it became a craving.

2 Peter 3:8 ..a day of waiting is like a thousand years to God.

1 kings 17:14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”

“God is predictably unpredictable”

3. A reminder of self-acceptance, not guilt and self-hatred. He loves me for who I am, my inner heart and not the outward appearance. With that, it is about the ‘BEING’ and not the ‘DOING’. There has been many times when I battle with my confidence level. When my spiritual director read out the verses she has been praying for me, I couldn’t contain my tears:

Isa 30:15 …in quietness and confidence, in me shall be your strength

Isa 16:4 trust in me, for in me you will always find everlasting strength.

Ps 18:1-3: I love you, O Lord, my strength, my rock, my fortress, deliverer, shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

4. His CREATIONS. I have been taking landscape photos quite frequently nowadays but nothing beats slowing down my pace and being sensitive to the sound of the waves, the sand, the awestruck sun rise, the birds that roam freely in the air, etc.

5. the following are the songs that has been ringing in my head:

I will have no other gods before you

the Lord’s my shepherd

Your name

Be it unto me

It was an amazing 3 days spent with you God 🙂

The Gift

Almost half a year has gone by and it has been amazing. I picked up my hobby in photography again and it has been about exploring the unseen and pushing my limits. i have been questioning about my interest in photography and whether the time i spent has any alignment with God. I know there is i’m waiting to explore it. i started volunteering at the church’s events and it was a great time serving God. wherever and whatever we do, there are always ways to serve God with our talents, amen 🙂

John 12:25

19 May

John 12:25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

A great reminder of what Jesus told his disciples. those who love the world and is so consumed by it will have nothing to bring with him when he dies.
On the other hand, those who have an eternal perspective of life and practices things that last for eternity will have His reward in heaven.

This verse speaks to me about how shortsighted we can be at times in wanting to gain the whole world. There are so much of wonders and pleasures this world can offer. And yet nothing is eternal.

I attended a travel photography workshop yesterday, hoping to get some good technical tips. It’s tempting to sign up for a overseas trip and spend thousands of dollars just to take photographs. there is nothing wrong in doing it if I can afford it but enough is never enough?

This week i heard of 2 person who are suddenly diagnose with terminal cancer. I imagine it happening to me, how my perspective of life will change. It’s easy to say that I’m ready to meet God anytime, but will I fully let go of all my accomplishments and possessions when the time comes?
